Lemon Drops and Tequila Shots
When, for the millionth time in my life,
someone said it’s true, but I can’t
I took a shot
and wept for a day
and then I got up
and kept going.
You asked if my heart was broken.
My heart's been broken since high school.
I've learned to sew her up
with each
It's true, but I can't
they uttered
through lemon drops
and tequila shots.
I've learned to carry on
through the looks I get from friends
through the hearts made through hands.
When the world is fuzzy I'm strong
and when you're the only thing I can see clearly
I'm stronger.
The bottom of this glass
is covered in images
of you in my bed
of you under my arm
and how much closer you'd lean toward me
if we emptied it together.
But I'll go home instead of out tonight
and wonder
if I had just loved harder
would it have made a difference
if I hadn't had that second drink.
If I had had a third.
